My Approach

bowl-of-yum-iStock_000016237107You Don’t have to be Perfect
It’s not necessary to become a ‘perfect’ eater to experience the success you desire. I believe in a 90/10 approach which means that 90% of the time give your body whole, natural foods and 10% of the time just relax and enjoy some chocolate cake. It’s ok. Flexibility is important when you’re trying to create a new way of eating. Together, we’ll create small, manageable goals that won’t overwhelm you.

A Unique Approach
I practice holistic nutrition therapy, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.

Together, we’ll work to achieve your goals in areas such as weight loss, reducing food cravings, getting better sleep, boosting your energy and improving your metabolism. Through working with me, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of the foods and lifestyle choices that work best for you and implement lasting changes that will improve your energy, balance and health.

Bio-individuality
The concept of bio-individuality is that each person has her or his own food and lifestyle needs. So, when the experts say, “dairy is good for you” or “eat whole grains,” it doesn’t apply to everyone. One person’s food is another person’s poison, and that’s why fad diets tend to fail in the long run. Working on the principle of bio-individuality, I’ll support you in making positive changes that are based on your unique needs, lifestyle, personal preferences, and background. Instead of prescribing one fix for all people, I use a personalized, holistic approach that is based on your needs.

Times have Changed

Consider this, nutritionists, dieticians, health coaches and holistic nutrition counselors are NEW. These roles did not exist 100 years ago because people ate real food from their gardens and farms. Food has become not only complicated, but confusing because so many ‘fake and processed’ food products are created by companies for profit.

Another factor that has significantly changed around health is that people no longer trust their own judgment about what to eat. Sadly, they have given their power to someone outside of themselves. I guide people to reconnect and listen to their body’s messages. Together we explore how to respond to those messages in a way that promotes health. My goal is to give you the knowledge and wisdom to empower you to choose the foods that will support you both physically and emotionally.

Our lifestyle in America has also significantly changed. Many families need (or prefer) dual incomes which leaves little time for food shopping and meal preparation. And there are now more single parents than ever before so the burden falls on one person which can feel overwhelming. Understandably exhausted after their full time job, the parent or parents have little time to invest in cooking whole foods meals. And a similar dilemma occurs with people who are single. After 40 to 60 hours a week, they seldom have the energy or desire to spend time in the kitchen during their downtime. For most people, life has become more complicated in the last 50 years. I can help you sort through what changes you do have the capacity to make. Keeping in mind that the better you feed yourself, the more energy you will have for your busy life.

Scared to Make Changes?

I understand that making changes to your food can feel downright panicky. Please know that we’ll incorporate changes at a pace that works for you. Sometimes people need some space to just learn more about their eating patterns before their ready to add any new foods. That is just fine. In fact, I encourage people to move at a pace that feels comfortable for them because you don’t want to change your food faster than you can keep up emotionally. Meaning, if people change their food too quickly, they get emotionally triggered and end up reverting back to their old way of eating. This happens because they haven’t learned how to care for themselves emotionally so they still need food to soothe their uncomfortable emotions.

Overwhelmed Because You Don’t Cook?

Did you read this page and get overwhelmed because you feel like you are not a good cook or you do not cook at all? Don’t worry, I was once where you are. I did not learn to cook until I was over 30. I guide people who have never cooked and people who have been cooking for years. I meet you where you are and help you reach your next level of growth.

I Do Not Sell Supplements

I think it is important for you to know that I do not sell any supplements. I focus on giving you the best emotional support and the empowering knowledge of how to eat to improve your health. However, I may recommend high-quality supplements to support your health, but it is your choice on whether you purchase them or not.

Everything is Food
We are not only fed by food but by other factors in our lives. Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual practice are essential forms of nourishment. When these “primary foods” are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.
